Chairman - Graeme Polley CPP
Graeme has been a member of ASIS International since 1999 and has previously served as NSW Chapter Secretary and Treasurer. He is a licensed Security Consultant and Trainer.
Currently involved in the provision of security products, Graeme has previously held a number of security management roles in the public and private sector. His first exposure to the "security industry" was in his late teens when he commenced work as a process server. In this role, as a licensed Commercial and Private Inquiry Sub-Agent he began to acquire basic investigative and security skills which would later allow him to gain a role as a trainee security consultant with an international security consultancy. This role in turn allowed him to develop the skills and contacts which would open the door to the "Security Profession".
Graeme has been a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) since 2001. He holds various vocational qualifications required under NSW Licensing Regulations and in 2003 completed an Executive Certificate in Risk Management awarded by the Faculty of Business and Economics at Monash University. Graeme coordinated the delivery of the ASIS NSW Chapter Certification Study Programs in 2006 & 2007.
Deputy Chairman - Allen Barry CPP
Allen's background includes time as the Senior Investigator at the Building Industry Royal Commission; Senior Licensed Gaming Investigation; Senior Investigator State Drug Crime Commission as well as other areas of the police service that dealt with organised crime and serious crime. He has also held a number of consultancies with government departments, including the Office of the Crown Solicitors.
Allen is a licensed investigator and licensed security consultant and considered a specialist in a range of activities including corporate security planning, fraud investigations, security assessments/emergency planning, electronic & physical surveillance, electronic security systems design and insurance investigation in the areas of arson, property fraud, workers compensation, public liability and motor vehicle collision.
Allen has been successfully adddressing the broad specturm of security and risk issues on behalf of corporate australia since his business commenced operations in 1991. He holds a CPP qualification and has completed tertiary study in a number of areas including psychology, sociology, criminal law and business administration.
Secretary - Nicholas Stramilos CPP, CISM
Nicholas Stramilos is currently Senior Manager, Crisis & Security Management for Westpac. Nick has responsibility for national commercial and corporate physical security, managing operations and major projects, managing a large contractor based security team and managing multiple service providers. As part of the Crisis & Security Management team Nick ensures the protection of Westpac people, buildings and assets.
With over fifteen years of experience, Nick entered the security profession in 1992 joining Honeywell (Protection Services) in Melbourne. He has held positions with IPP Consulting and the National Australia Bank. In 2004 Nick moved to Sydney to join Westpac.
Nick has a Bachelor of Arts (Hon) and a Graduate Diploma in Public Policy from Melbourne Uni, a Graduate Diploma in Risk Management from Swinburne Uni. He obtained his CPP Certification in 2002 and in 2008 earned his Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) Certification from ISACA. Nick is currently pursuing his MBA.
A firm believer in the professionalisation of the security management field, Nick views the CPP as currently, the only worldwide accredited certification program for security professionals; a certification that both demonstrates your professionalism and distinguishes you from the competition. He encourages all senior security managers to undertake the certification.
Westpac has graciously donated its new corporate office in Kent St Sydney since 2006 for Chapter events (including the CPP program and Chapter ABM) and hopes to continue the association. Nick has been Secretary of the NSW Chapter since 2007.
Treasurer - Martin Beaven CPP
Martin is the Manager of Projects and Technology in Qantas Group Security. The role manages all security projects and security technology selection across Qantas Airways worldwide with the aim of designing the most effective technology solutions possible for the varying business operations.
Martin previously held positions in Gen-i, Manchester Unity, AMP, IPP Consulting and the Commonwealth Government.
He has over fifteen years involvement in the security and facilities management industry, at levels ranging from technical to strategic positions. He has a risk based approach to the application of proactive security measures and activities. A strong believer in the benefits of ongoing professional development, and networking, Martin has been an ASIS International member for many years, and and previously held the role of Deputy Chariman for ASIS NSW. He is a strong believer in the benefits that professional associations can provide to members through networking opportunities but also the educational opportunities these bring.
Martin would like to encourage those security professionals who are serious about their career development to look at the benefits of ASIS membership and the training/development programs offered to members.
NSW Chapter - special interest and working groups
The NSW Chapter encourages the participation of all members in the development of programs and activities. Coordinators play an important role in chairing various special interest, working groups and committees. Coordinators are responsible to the Executive. Tasks of portfolio coordinators may include overseeing policy areas, representing the NSW Chapter, reporting to members and providing information.
